55 Days to Go: Will Rollins
Who: Will Rollins
Where: CA-41 (the “Inland Empire” southeast of Los Angeles)
Why: On Sept. 11, 2001—23 years ago today—Will Rollins was in high school, and he was moved by the events of that day to contemplate a career in the military. Instead he completed college and law school and then began a career in public service.
After clerking for two federal judges in California, he became an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Terrorism and Export Crimes Section of the National Security Division of the Department of Justice, where he has helped the FBI respond to threats from ISIS, the Sinaloa cartel, and Al Qaeda. More recently, he helped prosecute some of the January 6 insurrectionists for attacking the U.S. Capitol.
That’s in stark contrast to his opponent, incumbent Ken Calvert, who voted to overturn the 2020 election and sought to dismiss charges brought against the insurrectionists. Calvert, a 32-year veteran in Congress, very nearly lost to Rollins in 2022.
The newly-drawn district tilts a bit more Democratic than it did in 2022, but the race is still considered a toss-up.
